The reports are that the PlayStation Vita isn't selling that great - underperforming similar handhelds from previous generations. Maybe that's partly the price point. "I could buy a PS3 for that!"
But it's a really nice device!
- Finally - two analog sticks. That's what the PSP was missing.
- The screen is just beautiful.
- Having a touchpad on the back is brilliant - you can point at things without your damn finger getting in the way.
I've been playing a lot of Sound Shapes, which is brilliant. Also Everyday Shooter and Super Stardust. (I'm looking at the dual-stick shooter competition, obviously. I totally have them beat on session length!) And really looking forward to Super Crate Box - I can't stand the interface on my iphone but it's definitely the sort of game I want to hold in my hand.
And it's a great NetFlix server.
I'm on PSN as JamieFristrom. If you have a Vita look me up.
I am still a bit unsure about the rear touchpad, but the screen is awesome and the sticks are the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I am in love with the hardware but I am looking towards more small games that leverage dual stick control. I can't wait to play Super Crate Box on this.

The problem is that the Vita is a handheld designed for adults, when the traditional market for those is children. It costs too much and is too big to be used by children (they can't use that brilliant rear touchpad without holding with one hand and pointing with the other, and many women have the same problem), and it can't escape the "kid games" stigma (the Wii-inspired interface doesn't help) with older gamers.

Good point, Dave. Not only that but it's almost too big for adult males to carry around. "Is that a Vita in your pocket or ..."
