Reading this article in the Escapist about how to design games for drunk people - http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_180/5568-One-Button-One-Scotch-One-Beer
Makes me think we're failing to notice something cool - it's not a bad thing that videogames discourage drinking. Videogames are a force against alcoholism! Ever since Pong, apparently! The pre-Nintendo generation may have had a gin-and-tonic or two every night after they got home from work, but not us - it would interefere with our gaming.
This from a person who has a drink in his hand in 70% of his facebook photos. Who knows - maybe I'd be an alcoholic if it wasn't for videogames.
Good point. Serious gamers are practically immune to alcoholism. There's simply not enough time in a given day for Warcraft and boozin'. However, the casual gamer is a completely different story. I can't imagine Wii bowling being nearly as fun without bringing my friend Jack Daniels along.
