I've heard plenty of horror stories of the "We spent $$$$ on a demo and nobody cared" variety. On the other hand, I've seen a few projects that had no traction actually go once a prototype was made. So...while "If You Build It They Will Come" may not be true, this is:
If You Don't Build It, They Won't Come
Spot on article. I am not sure about doing the patent completely on your own, but it does not hurt anything to know more about the process.

Great article, right on the money.
I especially liked the "What you know matters more than who you know" myth. I'm definitely learning that the exact opposite is true of that one, and in pretty much every industry.
